The effect of bovine viral diarrhea virus introduction on milk production of Dutch dairy herds

چکیده
Dairy cows are negatively affected by the introduction of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), and consequently, produce less milk. Existing literature on potential milk production losses is based relatively outdated data hardly evaluates loss in relation to a new BVDV infection surveillance system. This study determined annual quarterly 3,126 dairy herds participating Dutch BVDV-free program between 2007 2017. Among these herds, 640 were “breakdown-herds” that obtained subsequently lost their status during period, 2,486 retained period. Milk yields before after compared through linear mixed models. The fixed variables for both models included herd type (breakdown-herd or free-herd), (on an basis), year, season, random effect. dependent variable was average daily yield test day. To define possible BVDV-introduction dates, 4 scenarios developed. In default scenario, date breakdown (i.e., status) assumed as date. For other 3 scenarios, dates set at 4, 6, 9 mo breakdown, estimated birth persistently infected calf. due occurred mainly first year with reduction 0.08 kg/cow per day last breakdown. greatest second introduction, 0.09, 0.1 day, respectively. quarters 0.14, 0.02, These results indicated quarter introduction. Overall, had negative, but small, effect program. will enable farmers policymakers have clearer understanding quantitative farms control

The prevalence of bovine viral diarrhea virus in persistently infected cows in industrial dairy herds in suburb of Mashhad- Iran
Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) is a Pestivirus of the Flaviviviridaefamily that infects cattle, and its widespread distribution can cause substantial economic losses worldwide. The aims of this study were: (1) to estimate the prevalence of animals persistently infected (PI) with BVDV in industrial dairy cattle herds in suburb of Mashhad- Iran; and (2) to compare the occurrence of persistent...
متن کاملPersistent bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) infection in cattle herds
Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is a significant pathogen associated with gastrointestinal, respiratory, and reproductive diseases of cattle worldwide. It causes continuous economic losses to the cattle industry primarily due to decreased reproductive performance. The ability of virus to cross the placenta during early pregnancy can result in the birth of persistently infected (PI) calves. P...

Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is one of the most important viral pathogens of cattle worldwide. The aim of present study was to determine the molecular characterization and phylogenetic analysis of BVDV infection in dairy herds of Fars province, Iran. For initial screening, a total of 400 blood samples were collected from 12 industrial dairy herds with previous history of diarrhea, abortio...

Bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV) is an important pathogen of dairy cattle. In this study, bulk milk samples representing a total of 4105 milking cows, from 18 dairy cattle herds in the suburb of Mashhad- Iran, were tested for presence of BVDV by the use of a nested reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (Nested RT- PCR) assay. Non of the cows in the herds had been vaccinated against...
متن کاملThe effect of bovine viral diarrhea virus on bovine monocyte phenotype
Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is an economically important pathogen of the livestock industry worldwide. BVDV is classified into cytopathic (cp) and noncytopathic (ncp), depending on its effects on cultured cells. BVDV is known to alter the host’s immune response. Of this, major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II molecules play a central role in the development and function of the i...
